Memo...LOCAL HERO would definitely be my top recommendation from the list above, if you haven't seen it. It is about as perfect a movie that has ever been made, in my humble opinion.

I have a number of films that bounce around as my top favorites of all time, and LOCAL HERO is definitely up there.

LOST IN AMERICA, by Mr. Albert Brooks, is by far my very favorite movie of all time. But BEING THERE, NETWORK, THE KING OF COMEDY, S.O.B. and some others always kind of bounce around among the Top Five. But I can assure you, LOCAL HERO has held a number 2 spot at times, until a week later I rewatch NETWORK. Or S.O.B. Or THE KING OF COMEDY. Or BEING THERE. I didn't include most of these on the list, because they are "fairly" talked about...you know...at dinner parties.

But either way, I would highly recommend LOCAL HERO.

And I would also highly recommend S.O.B. by the great Blake Edwards, if you haven't seen it yet. I kind of regret not including it on the list. I know, I know, Blake has had a kind of "on-again off-again" kind of career, but when the guy was "on", that brilliant bastard was "on".

wow, i actually have not seen several of these- great stuff, dan. several comedies, too. it's been so long since I've seen LA Story, I've always figured it probably won't be as good as I remember it, since I saw it at a much younger age. I should check that one out again. Straight Story, that's a classic.

For some reason, all your underrated comedies made me think of FREAKED. Ever seen it? A 90's Airplane-like masterpiece by the lesser-famous half of Bill N' Ted. Got zero press or support when it came out. Ridiculous but in a totally unique way- damn, I should write a -whadayacall- blog about it!
